Sending Our Boss Over The Edge: What Happened?
A few weeks ago our boss, Joel Gillis, agreed to participate in “Over the Edge”, a fundraising event for Special Olympics North Carolina. All participants who raised at least $1,000 earned a ticket to rappel down the side of Wells Fargo’s 30-story Capitol Center building in downtown Raleigh on October 2 and 3.
Our team helped Joel work through his rigorous training regimen, which consisted primarily of standing on the edge of our warehouse dock and imagining what it’d be like if it were about 29 stories higher:
Heading into October 2, our fearless leader was ready. That said, we have great news… and not so great news.
Thrifty raised $1,045 for Special Olympics North Carolina! That number includes donations from friends, family, and Thrifty’s corporate contribution.
We can’t thank you enough.
Thrifty and Special Olympics North Carolina truly appreciate everything that everybody has done to help!
All donations went straight to SONC, to help fund their mission: “to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community.”
The not so great news...
Unfortunately, due to bad weather (Hurricane Joaquin), the event was rained out.
The Thrifty team will continue to help Joel prepare for next year’s event. We’ll be adding one story to our loading dock each week to work towards the target height of 30 stories. Stay tuned...
