At Thrifty, we always strive to give back to our community in any way we can. Especially during the holiday season, we like to come together to support children in need. This year, we worked with the Salvation Army in Durham to sponsor angels for the Angel Tree Program. We took on 20 angels, who are children from either Durham, Orange or Pearson counties and purchased them gifts for Christmas. Each year, the Durham Salvation Army serves more than 2,000 children through these programs, and we wanted to be a part of that impact. From bikes to clothes to Legos, we received a ton of gifts from our employees for these children! Below is some of our staff posing with the whole lot of toys purchased for our angels this year. We hope that we can make at least a small difference in the lives of those children, and wish them much joy for this holiday season!
Collecting the toys was fun! I loved seeing them come in everyday with more presents for their angels. The generosity of my co-workers was simply astounding. It even got to the point that the toys were bursting out of my office!
Then the day came when we needed to load everything up and haul it to the Salvation Army in Durham. So we loaded up one of our Thrifty trucks and went! CISCO was there at the same time, unloading one of two tracker trailers they needed to donate all the toys purchased by their employees. Once we arrived, we realized bikes were a big item this year! The Salvation Army gym was full of them, along with plenty of presents and bags of gifts for many children in need this Christmas.
We hope that you think about those in need this Christmas season as well, and try to give back in any way you can. Thanks for reading and we wish you all a wonderful Christmas and a very happy New Year!!
